Whether you want to have more, travel more or do more, it’s easy to think having MORE of something will make you MORE satisfied. At what point is it enough? How do you find peace and satisfaction with where you are in life? It’s not always easy, but here are some tips on how to appreciate what you have. How You Can Be Happy With What You Have

Choose Happiness 

Happiness is always a choice, and you should choose happiness every day! Yes, it’s easier to be happier some days than others. If you find yourself connecting happiness to an item or event in the future that may or may not happen, you’ll never get there. Saying “I’ll be happier once I get this promotion” or “I’ll be happier once I get these new shoes” is not the answer. Even when you do get what you want, you’re on to the next thing that you think will make you even happier. A lot of times people get so busy chasing happiness in other places, that they forget about the happiness that’s right in front of them!

Focus On The Good

If you’re healthy, have a home and family – you are luckier than most. There are good things in your life right now that you can focus on. Do you take the time to acknowledge what you do already have and how far you’ve come to achieve that? Make a list and write down all that you are blessed with. Chances are you’ve overlooked a few aspects of your life that you take for granted because they come easily or naturally for you. I always say that things could be worse, so practicing gratitude for all of the good in your life will teach you how to be happy with what you have.

Cut The Comparisons

Imagine you log onto Instagram and see that your coworker just bought the latest Tesla. You were okay with your BMW 4 Series until now. It’s not easy to be happy with your life when you constantly receive social media updates about everyone else’s seemingly perfect life. A lot of times we find ourselves in this comparison trap. We’re chasing something not because we actually want it, but because we feel like we should have it because other people have it. You probably don’t need, or even want, everything someone else has within their grasp. So do your best to stay focused on your own path and remember that someone else’s success isn’t your failure!
